Dante Rivera pulls off a decision victory over ATT's Dan Cramer at MMA Mayhem (picture courtesy of Patrick Mackin)
Six Flags Great Adventure, N.J. – A close battle between TUF veterans Dante Rivera and Dan Cramer headlined the inaugural MMA Mayhem show, which was held within the Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park in Jackson, New Jersey. With a rollercoaster rumbling in the background, Ricardo Almeida-trained Rivera and American Top Team rep Cramer took turns pressing each other against the cage, trading uppercuts and knees for three full rounds and somehow managing to increase their output in waning half of the third round. Two judges had it for Rivera and one had it for Cramer when the final tally was read, but the decision could’ve gone either way.
A trio of old school local fighters found success as well. UFC veteran and perennial badass Chris Liguori needed two and a half rounds to whittle away at Robert Connor, eventually locking Conner up in a triangle and delivering a barrage of elbows for the win via TKO. Jose Rodriguez returned to action after a lengthy layoff but appeared to have zero ring rust, as he needed only about a minute to trap Robert Morrow in an armbar. Meanwhile, AMA Fight Club’s Adam Fearon fought out of some precarious positions to gain dominance, and when opponent Justin Herbst reversed, Fearon slipped on a bout-ending guillotine. Liguori, Rodriguez and Fearon all sport MMA records that stretch back into the BAMA Fight Night days, which was New Jersey’s seminal fight show run by Dan Miragliotta.

Two of the best coaches in MMA, Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn, joined Duke Roufus and me on the Free Roll.
Jackson stopped by to give some insight into his relationship with different fighters and coaches from around the country.
“We’ve been doing it so long that we have a well-oiled machine,” Jackson said. “It’s just a matter of doing our formula. Nobody really cares who gets the credit, and we’re not trying to step on each other’s heads to get to the top or anything like that.”
That relationship has been beneficial to everyone involved. Winkeljohn, who Jackson cites as his mentor, said that there’s a collective effort by all to further evolve the sport.
“Most of the guys, they want to see the sport go forward and they leave their ego aside and they try to help each other out,” Winkeljohn said. “It must be the martial arts background. There’s just so much courtesy and respect.”
Listen to the full show to hear Jackson gives his opinion on weight cutting, his fighters finishing fights, and even the Beatles. Winkeljohn also talks about coming back from a devastating eye injury, and turning wrestlers and jiu jitsu fighters into competent strikers.

Topps once again was at the UFC Training Facility for the start of the season for our latest photo shoot with the new competitors and coaches. Everyone seemed to enjoy the process of making what are essentially the 14 fighters’ rookie cards.
Check out the samples of cards for the first two fighters to match up, Clayton McKinney and Kyle Noke. These cards will be showing up in packs in a future Topps UFC release.
