Bellator signs Russian heavyweight prospect Ruslan Magomedov

Russian heavyweight Ruslan Magomedov (7-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) is the latest addition to the Bellator Fighting Championships roster.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the signing with sources close to the once-beaten prospect.

Magomedov's debut fight has yet to be scheduled, but he could fight in a season-six non-tournament fight.

At 6-foot-4, the striking specialist has the size to compete in the sport's top promotions, and Bellator gives him an opportunity to make a name for himself in the sport. He recently downed former UFC champ Ricco Rodriguez in a three-round decision win at United Glory 15, giving Magomedov the first "name" victory of his career.

Ruslan has fought exclusively in Russia and Ukraine this far in his career, which already includes four wins by knockout, two via decision and one b way of submission.

Champ Cole Konrad vs. Eric Prindle off Bellator 65, moved to Bellator 70

This week's Bellator 65 event has lost a title fight.

A fight between heavyweight champion Cole Konrad (8-0 MMA, 6-0 BFC) and de facto tournament winner Eric Prindle (7-1 MMA, 3-0 BFC) has been moved to Bellator 70 on May 25.

Prindle, who suffered a hand injury, today tweeted news of the change.

Bellator 65 takes place Friday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Konrad vs. Prindle was expected to join Bellator bantamweight champion Zach Makovsky (14-2 MMA, 6-0 BFC) and fellow headliner Eduardo Dantas (13-2 MMA, 3-0 BFC) on the MTV2-televised main card.

Instead, it'll take place next month at a currently unannounced Bellator 70 show.

The title fight came about after two meetings between season-five tournament finalists Prindle and Thiago Santos were scrapped in recent weeks.

Prindle and Santos first fought at Bellator 59, where the tourney championship went unresolved after Santos accidentally kicked his opponent in the groin. With Prindle unable to continue, the fight was rebooked for Bellator 61 this past month. However, Prindle suffered from flu-like symptoms, and the fight was postponed a week. Then at Bellator 62 weigh-ins, Santos failed to make weight, and Prindle was declared the tournament champion.

Konrad hasn't fought since August, when he earned a unanimous-decision victory over Paul Buentello in a non-title fight. Prior to that, the two-time NCAA Division I national champion and current Team DeathClutch fighter won Bellator's season-three tournament with victories over Rogent Lloret, Damian Grabowski and Neil Grove. That earned him Bellator's inaugural heavyweight title.

Before the Santos fiasco, Prindle advanced to the season-five tourney finale with victories over Abe Wagner and Ron Sparks. It was part of a seven-fight win streak that followed his pro-debut loss to Jimmy Ambriz in 2008.

Megumi Fujii vs. Jessica Aguilar Confirmed for Bellator 69

A previously rumored match-up between top-ranked 115-pound women's fighters Jessica Aguilar and Megumi Fujii has been officially added to the fight card of Bellator 69, slated to take place May 18, 2012 at the L'Auberge du Lac Casino Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Both women have tasted defeated just once in recent years, with each emerging on the wrong side of a split decision against reigning Bellator Women's Champion Zoila Gurgel.

Since that loss, Aguilar (13-4) has rebounded to win four straight contests, including a pair of decision victories over Lisa Ellis-Ward and Carla Esparza under the Bellator banner.

Likewise, Fujii (25-1) has rolled through a trio of victories, capped by a 75-second armbar win over Karla Benitez at DREAM's year-end mega-event. The 37-year-old "Mega Megu" now carries 19 submission finishes to her credit.

In addition, Bellator 69 will host the Bellator Season 6 lightweight tournament finals, as the two winners of Rick Hawn (12-1) vs. Lloyd Woodard (12-1) and Brent Weedman (19-7-1) vs. Thiago Michel Pireira Silva (10-2) will vie for the right to fight lightweight champion Michael Chandler.

A lightweight match-up between Josh Quayhagen (3-0) and Cliff Wright, Jr. (6-2), and a heavyweight tournament qualifier slotting Ron Sparks (8-1) against Kevin Asplund (15-1) has also been confirmed for the card.

Alistair Overeem Applies for Nevada License, Hearing Set for April 24th

Apr 9, 2012 - Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem has applied for a license to fight in Nevada, MMA Fighting has learned. Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed the news with Ariel Helwani.

On April 5th, Kizer revealed Overeem produced a testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio of 14:1 in his urine test that was administered by the NSAC directly after the UFC 146 pre-fight press conference on March 27th. The limit in Nevada is 6:1, thereby putting Overeem far over the legal threshold. Junior Dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, Frank Mir, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva were also tested, but all passed.

Kizer also confirmed to MMA Fighting Overeem has not yet asked for a testing of the B sample turned in during his original urinalysis. According to commission protocol, Overeem's original sample was provided into two groups. The original or A sample revealed Overeem to have the 14:1 T/E ratio. Overeem has a right to ask for the B sample to be tested should he feel the A sample inaccurately reflects his T/E levels.

Overeem is currently unlicensed in Nevada and is therefore not subject to punishment, although he'll have to reasonably explain the cause of the high T/E ratio to obtain a license. The K-1 champion will get his opportunity to do so at a NSAC hearing on April 24th.

Junior dos Santos is still scheduled to face Overeem in the main event of UFC 146 on May 26 in Las Vegas for the UFC heavyweight title. However, that bout will have to be cancelled, re-scheduled or a new opponent found if Overeem is unable to obtain a license.

Todd Duffee Knocks Out Neil Grove at Super Fight League 2

Apr 7, 2012 - The long drought is over for Todd Duffee. The 26-year-old heavyweight earned his first win in over two years, stopping Neil Grove in a 34-second TKO in the main event of Super Fight League 2.

Duffee knocked Grove down with a rook hook, and referee Herb Dean looked as if he would stop it right then, but gave Grove a chance to defend himself. Duffee pounced with a hail of unanswered strikes from the top, and Dean stepped in to call a halt to the action.

Afterward, Duffee credited his new camp at American Kickboxing Academy for their team environment in assisting him in his comeback.

"I had a really, really rough camp," he said. "I had a lot of bad stuff going on and couldn't do this without them."

Duffee hadn't emerged victorious in a fight since UFC 102 in August 2009, when he knocked out Tim Hague in just seven seconds. Since then he had only fought twice, losing to Mike Russow and Alistair Overeem, respectively. He's now 7-2 overall.

Grove lost his third straight, falling to 11-6-1.

In the co-main event, Colleen Schneider TKO'd Cherie Buck at 2:29 of round two with punches and elbows.

In one of the night's other high-profile bouts, Alexander Shlemenko needed just 2:20 to earn a TKO win over Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa.

Shlemenko is currently awaiting a Bellator middleweight title match with Hector Lombard, and he took the opportunity to let Lombard know he's thinking about him.

"Hector, I kill you," he said simply.

Nova Uniao featherweight Hacran Dias signs with UFC

As expected, Nova Uniao featherweight Hacran Dias (20-1-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Dias, who was rumored at one point for a slot on "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" has instead bypassed the reality series and will instead head straight to the octagon.

Dias' signed the deal, a three-fight contract, in front of Sensei SporTV cameras.

The debut date for the main sparring partner of UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo has yet to be determined.

The 27-year-old Dias began fighting professionally in 2005, racking up an impressive 12-0-1 mark before his first professional loss, a July 2009 decision defeat at the hands of Yui Chul Nam.

Dias has since bounced back with eight-straight wins.

Nine of Dias' career wins have come via submission, eight via decision and three by way of knockout.

Ken Stone vs. Edwin Figueroa added to UFC on FX 4

A bantamweight bout between Ken Stone (10-3) and Edwin Figueroa (9-1) is the latest addition to this summer's UFC on FX 4 card.

Stone returns to the cage after what will be nine-month layoff. The onetime WEC fighter made his promotional debut at The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale, where he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Scott Jorgensen. The loss was part of a 1-3 skid for the American Top Team fighter. However, he rebounded this past September at UFC Fight Night 25, where he choked Donny Walker unconscious for his 10th stoppage victory in 10 fights. A planned January bout with Mike Easton was scratched when Stone was forced off the card with an injury.

Figueroa, meanwhile, debuted with the UFC a year and dropped a decision to fast-rising Michael McDonald. However, the Texan since has rebounded with a TKO of Jason Reinhardt at UFC on Versus 6 and a split-decision victory over Alex "Bruce Leroy" Caceres at UFC 143. The Cacares victory was a contentious one, though; Figueroa's opponent was deducted two points for illegal groin kicks in the February fight.

    TUF Live Finale adds Brookins-Oliveira, Holloway-Schilling, Albert-Bloodworth

Three new bouts are official for The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale, UFC executives recently announced.

They include featherweights Jonathan Brookins (13-4) vs. Charles Oliveira (15-2), featherweights Max Holloway (4-1) vs. Pat Schilling (5-1), and bantamweights John Albert (7-2) vs. Byron Bloodworth (6-2).

Brookins, who won "TUF 12," recently rebounded from a unanimous-decision loss to fast-rising Erik Koch – one that snapped a four-fight win streak – with a 92-second knockout of Vagner Rocha at UFC on FUEL TV 1. The onetime Bellator and WEC fighter now meets Oliveira, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who went winless in three fights before a rare calf-slicer submission victory over Eric Wisley at UFC on FOX 2. Prior to that, Oliveira suffered his first career setbacks with losses to Jim Miller and Donald Cerrone, as well as a no-contest with Nik Lentz (due to Oliveira's illegal knee).

Holloway, a 20-year-old Hawaiian, made his UFC debut after just four pro fights as a late replacement against Dustin Poirier at UFC 143. Overmatched but willing to take the tough fight, he ultimately suffered a first-round submission loss. He looks to rebound against Schilling, a 23-year-old Minnesotan who opened his career with five consecutive first-round victories. However, in his promotional debut at UFC on FX 1, he suffered a submission loss to Daniel Pineda.

Albert, meanwhile, was a quarterfinalist on "TUF 14" who secured a UFC contract with a dominant 69-second of castmate Dustin Pague on the undercard of the show's live finale. However, after some spirited exchanges, "Prince" then suffered a first-round loss to Ivan Menjivar at UFC on FUEL TV 1. He meets Bloodworth, who joined the UFC with a late-notice opportunity at UFC on Versus 6, where he suffered a TKO loss to Mike Easton. That followed a 6-1 start to his career on the Georgia regional circuit.

The TUF Live Finale takes place June 1 at The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Salas (10-3) is on a similar streak, having won his last six consecutive bouts. Training out of the Grudge Training Center in Denver, he holds a win over top welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger’s brother, Joe, and won his promotional debut, also on the UFC on Fuel TV 1 fight card.

A lightweight fight between Mitch Clarke (9-1) and Anton Kuivanen (16-5) has been added to this summer's UFC 149 fight card.

Clarke, a Canadian fighter based out of the Hayabusa Training Centre, opened his career with a 9-0 record on the Canadian circuit, and six of the victories came via submission. He then signed with the UFC, but this past December at UFC 140 in Toronto, he suffered a second-round TKO loss to John Cholish.

Kuivanen, a Finnish fighter, also recently suffered a loss in his UFC debut. After posting nine straight wins in regional shows in Finland, he signed with the UFC in late 2011 but suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Justin Salas at UFC on FUEL TV 1 in February. Kuivanen owns 12 stoppages (eight submissions) in 16 career wins,

UFC on FX 3 adds Sean Pierson vs. Jake Hecht

A welterweight matchup between Sean Pierson (11-6) and Jake Hecht (11-6) has been added to UFC on FX 3.

The hard-hitting Pierson is on thin ice following back-to-back losses in his most recent octagon appearances. The former Toronto cop was outpointed by Dong-Hyun Jim at UFC 141 and knocked out by current contender Jake Ellenberger at UFC 129. Those setbacks snapped a six-fight win streak that included a decision win over Matt Riddle in his octagon debut at UFC 124.

Former University of Missouri wrestler Hecht has a little more leeway, but he needs a win nonetheless. T.J. Waldburger submitted him in less than a minute this past month at UFC on FX 2, which snapped a four-fight win streak that included a TKO win over Rich Attonito in his octagon debut at UFC 140.

MSM’s new sports channel, SIX, will deliver the world’s largest brand of mixed martial arts to Indian fans across the country by airing live UFC events, taped specials, and exciting bouts from the vast UFC library.

Marius Zaromskis vs. Waachiim Spiritwolf rematch added to Bellator 68

A welterweight rematch between DREAM champion Marius Zaromskis (16-6) and Waachiim Spiritwolf (9-9-1) will be part of next month's Bellator 68 event.

Zaromskis, who won the 2009 DREAM world welterweight grand prix to become the Japanese-based promotion's first champ in the weight class, has defended his belt just once in  three years. The 31-year-old Lithuanian, who went 0-2 (with one no-contest) with Strikeforce in 2010, is on a current 3-1 run. Most recently, Zaromskis scored a flashy somersault-kick knockout of Bruno Carvalho at a November regional event in Sweden. It was his 12th knockout in 16 career wins.

The California-based Spiritwolf has competed with organizations such as KOTC, Strikeforce and Tachi Palace Fights during his six-year career. Currently, though, he's stuck in a 1-4 skid that included recent defeats to Jorge Lopez and Michael Madrid. The lone victory came in his Bellator debut, when he earned a split-decision victory over Jaime Jara at Bellator 35.

'JZ' Cavalcante vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg added to 'Strikeforce: Grand Prix Finale'

A lightweight matchup between Strikeforce vets Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante (16-4-1) and Isaac Vallie-Flagg (12-3-1) is set for the preliminary card of "Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Finale."

It's been nine months since Cavalcante outpointed Bobby Green by split decision at "Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Henderson," which put him on the right track after he inadvertently poked Justin Wilcox in the eye at "Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum" and forced a no-contest. The oft-injured Brazilian has had a rocky road in the past four years of his career while going 2-3 with two no-contests in his past seven outings.

Vallie-Flagg's also appeared at "Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum," where he bested Brian Melancon by split decision. The Greg Jackson-trained fighter is now undefeated (9-0-1) over his past 10 fights going back to a 2007 loss to Rudy Bears. Cavalcante represents the most accomplished opponent of his nine-year career.

Marcus Aurelio vs. Mike Bronzoulis added to Legacy Fighting 11

A welterweight bout between PRIDE and UFC vet Marcus Aurelio (21-9) and recent Strikeforce fighter Mike Bronzoulis (13-4-1) is a late addition to next month's Legacy Fighting Championships 11 event.

Legacy promoter Mick Maynard told MMAjunkie.com the bout has taken the main-card slot previously reserved for middleweights Robert Drysdale (3-0) and Isaac "Ike" Villanueva (8-6).

Aurelio, a 10-year pro, fought just twice in 2010 and once in 2011. Most recently, the former PRIDE title challenger and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt submitted Matt McGrath at a regional show in Canada. It marked his third win and four fights and improved his post-UFC record to 5-2.

He now takes on Bronzoulis, who put together a solid 5-1 run that included winning the Legacy welterweight title and knocking out Chad Leonhardt under the Strikeforce banner. Most recently, though, he suffered a decision loss to Jorge Patino while trying to reclaim the welterweight belt he previously vacated.

Legacy Fighting Championship 11 takes place May 11 at Houston's Arena Theater.

Alistair Overeem fails pre-fight drug test, likely out of UFC 146 title fight

Alistair Overeem (36-11) is unlikely to fight champion Junior dos Santos (14-1) for the UFC heavyweight title this summer at UFC 146.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer today told MMAjunkie.com the No. 1 heavyweight contender failed a pre-fight drug test conducted this past Tuesday following a press conference for UFC 146.

Overeem's "A" sample was flagged for an elevated T/E ratio that exeeded 10-to-1, well over the 6-to-1 limit. Kizer said the heavyweight has the right to request the test's "B" sample, which, if negative, would make him eligible to receive a fight license.

The former Strikeforce champion was among six top-billed fighters who were tested for the all-heavyweight pay-per-view event, which takes place May 26 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. All were tested for diuretics, masking agents, anabolic steroids and T/E ratios in addition to drugs of abuse.

dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva all passed their tests.

Because Overeem's conditional license expired on Dec. 31, the NSAC will not receive a disciplinary complaint against him as it does for licensed athletes. Instead, he will need to appear before the commission should he choose to apply for a license, which notably, hadn't been filed for UFC 146.

With one half of May 26's event on the shelf, the UFC may give one of the main-card heavyweights an impromptu title shot.
