Hatsu Hioki vs. Ricardo Lamas added to UFC on FX 4

The UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida card just got a little deeper, according to UFC president Dana White.

"Two of the top featherweights in the world, Hatsu Hioki and Ricardo Lamas, will battle it out June 22 on the UFC on FX card in Atlantic City," White told FOXSports.com.

Hioki (26-4-2) comes in riding a six-fight winning streak, including his first two UFC bouts. He last fought at UFC 144 in February, where he won a unanimous decision over Bart Palaszewski.

Lamas (11-2) has also won his first two UFC bouts following a stint in the WEC. Lamas last fought in November on the UFC on FOX 1 card, where he beat Cub Swanson by submission.

“Many pegged Hioki as the next possible challenger for Jose Aldo's title, but he wants one more test before going for the belt," White said. "In his way is Lamas, who has proven to be a tough competitor for anyone to deal with, especially since moving down to featherweight and finishing both opponents at 145 pounds. Both guys have verbally agreed to the match."

UFC on FX 4 takes place June 22 at Revel Atlantic City in Atlantic City, N.J.

Jamie Varner vs. Lee King added to Legacy Fighting Championship 11 on HDNet

Former WEC champion Jamie Varner (19-6-1) has replaced Alex Morono (4-1) and now meets Lee King (16-16-1) at next month's Legacy Fighting Championships 11 event.

LFC promoter Mick Maynard today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) about the 160-pound catchweight fight, which will be part of the night's HDNet-televised main card.

Legacy Fighting Championship 11 takes place May 11 at Houston's Arena Theater.

Varner vs. King is one of seven bouts airing on HDNet.

Varner currently is on a 3-1 post-WEC run. Most recently, he's competed for the Florida-based XFC promotion, where he's picked up back-to-back stoppage wins over Nate Jolly and UFC vet Drew Fickett. The current AMA Fight Club fighter's lone loss during the stretch came via decision to Dakota Cochrane in September in the Titan Fighting Championships 20 headliner.

King is a journeyman fighter from Texas who's fought some of the lightweight division's biggest names during his decade-long career. He's currently riding a three-fight win streak that included a recent first-round TKO of Shawn Machado at Legacy's February event.

Mark Munoz vs. Chris Weidman headlines UFC on FUEL TV 4 on July 11

An intriguing middleweight scrap between wrestling standout Mark Munoz (12-2) and undefeated prospect Chris Weidman (8-0) takes center stage at UFC on FUEL TV 4.

The headlining matchup was revealed on Tuesday's new edition of FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight."

The Wednesday night event is also expected to feature a light heavyweight bout between James Te Huna and Brandon Vera, though that bout has yet to be officially announced.

Munoz returns after being forced to bow out of a key contest with Chael Sonnen at January's UFC on FOX 2 event. Munoz was replaced by Michael Bisping, who would go on to lose a decision to Sonnen, who will now challenge Anderson Silva for the middleweight title in July. Munoz is also considered one of the top contenders in the division after racking up a four-fight win streak and boasting a 7-1 mark in his past eight fights.

Meanwhile, it was Munoz's bad luck that allowed Weidman to step into the UFC on FOX 2 card on short notice, taking Bisping's slot against Demian Maia. While the fight proved a sloppy affair, Weidman grinded out a decision win to remain undefeated in his eight-bout career and earn his fourth UFC win in less than 11 months.

The contest takes place July 11, though a location for the event has yet to be revealed.

    UFC signs Hector Lombard

Defending Bellator middleweight champion is now on the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster.

Lombard (31-2-1) announced the news today via his twitter account.

UFC president Dana White has expressed his interest in Lombard, and it was made public that the UFC was vying for the Cuban mixed martial artist.  No fight debut or opponent have been released yet, nor has the UFC confirmed the news.

Lombard has been the Bellator middleweight champ since June 2009, and he has not been defeated since November 2006.

NSAC denies Alistair Overeem license to fight, may reapply on Dec. 27

After a lengthy Tuesday hearing in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Alistair Overeem was denied a license to fight in Nevada and must now wait nine months before reapplying with the commission.

The ruling was a bit of a concession from the NSAC, which has the right to enforce a one-year waiting period in such circumstances.

Today's meeting took place at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas.

Overeem's camp initially requested a continuance of 45-60 days in order to gather more expert testimony to support its client's case. However, following a brief deliberation with his fellow commissioners, chairman Raymond "Skip" Avansino elected to proceed with the hearing.

The suspension start-date was backdated to the failed March 27 drug test, meaning Overeem is free to apply again on Dec. 27. While it would be a tight window, commissioner Francisco Aguilar suggested Overeem would be eligible for the UFC's customary year-end event, which is expected to take place Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.

In the meantime, the commission made it clear it doesn't want to see Overeem applying for a license or competing under the jurisdiction of another commission.

UFC 147 keeps Belfort vs. Silva 2, expected to get champ Aldo at date TBA

Although the event has lost its headliner, UFC 147 will soldier on.

At a press conference today in Rio de Janeiro, UFC president Dana White today announced UFC 147 will take place at a date to be determined with a Wanderlei Silva (34-11-1 MMA, 4-6 UFC) vs. Vitor Belfort (21-9 MMA, 10-5 UFC) bout. Additionally featherweight champion Jose Aldo also (21-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) is expected to fight at the event.

A previously announced headliner and rematch between middleweight champion Anderson Silva (31-4 MMA, 14-0 UFC) and challenger Chael Sonnen (27-11-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) has been moved to July's UFC 148 event, as MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported earlier today.

Currently, White said, a date and venue have not been determined for UFC 147, though it'll remain in Brazil.

UFC officials initially announced UFC 147 as taking place June 23 at Joao Havelange Stadium (also known as Engenhao Stadium) in Rio. However, White recently said conflicts with the United Nations' "Rio +20" meeting, which is scheduled for June 20-22 in Rio, could prompt some changes. Instead of the stadium, which could have broken the UFC's all-time attendance record (55,724 attendees at UFC 129), UFC 147 now is searching for a new venue.

Admittedly, Silva was disappointed he couldn't fight in Brazil.

"He was very upset about not fighting in Brazil," White said. "He wanted to fight Chael Sonnen here. ... I finally convinced him to take the fight in Las Vegas."

Aldo initially was announced for a headlining spot at UFC 149 in Calgary on July 21, but instead, White said he expects the Brazilian to fight at UFC 147 in his home country.

Additionally, White confirmed UFC 147 still will feature both tournament finales from "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil," which is currently at the midseason point, as well as Brazilian heavyweight Fabricio Werdum (15-5-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) vs. Mike Russow (15-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC).

Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen title fight moved from UFC 147 to UFC 148

A title fight and rematch between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (31-4 MMA, 14-0 UFC) and challenger Chael Sonnen (27-11-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) apparently has been moved from UFC 147 in Brazil to UFC 148 in Las Vegas.

A press conference today in Rio de Janeiro announcing the change has been delayed an hour due to technical issues.

However, signage at the media event now shows a UFC 148 poster adorned with Silva and Sonnen's likeness and names.

UFC 148 takes place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A bantamweight title fight between champion Dominick Cruz (19-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and longtime rival Urijah Faber (26-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC), who currently serve as coaches on "The Ultimate Fighter: Live," will be demoted from the pay-per-view event's headliner to the the co-headliner under Silva vs. Sonnen.

UFC officials initially announced UFC 147 and Silva vs. Sonnen II for June 23 at Joao Havelange Stadium (also known as Engenhao Stadium) in Rio. However, in recent weeks, White said the company was considering a different date due to the United Nations' "Rio +20" meeting, which is scheduled for June 20-22 in Rio de Janeiro. That meeting prompted political pressure from local officials and a lack of hotel rooms for such a large UFC stadium show. That prompted speculation of Silva vs. Sonnen moving off the card altogether.

UFC officials are expected to reveal the remaining plans for UFC 147, which also features "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" coaches Wanderlei Silva (34-11-1 MMA, 4-6 UFC) vs. Vitor Belfort (21-9 MMA, 10-5 UFC), at today's presser, which begins at 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT).

Sonnen dominated reigning champ Anderson Silva for four rounds before succumbing to a last-round triangle choke at UFC 117 in 2010. Sonnen set up a rematch with a January win over Michael Bisping, and Silva since has defeated the likes of Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami. The rematch is likely to be one of the biggest fights in MMA history.

Roy Nelson vs. Gabriel Gonzaga Announced for UFC 146

Announced Monday, Gabriel Gonzaga has been removed from his UFC 146 match-up against Shane del Rosario, and is now slated to face TUF 10 winner Roy Nelson at the May 26 event. UFC President Dana White confirmed the switch via Twitter.

Del Rosario will remain on the card and will face Stipe Miocic.

Nelson (16-7) was originally booked to fight Strikeforce veteran Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, however that match-up fell apart after Silva was tapped as Frank Mir's replacement opposite Cain Velasquez. Mir, of course, replaced Alistair Overeem in UFC 146's main event after Overeem failed a random drug test earlier this month.

"Big Country" now hopes to rebound after dropping three of his past four fights, including a bloody decision loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 143.

Gonzaga (13-6), meanwhile, looks to continue his recent career resurgence since returning from retirement and choking out Ednaldo Oliveira in the first round at UFC 142.

After Bellator 66 scuffle, Andreas Spang fined 20 percent of purse but not suspended

Andreas Spang will still fight in Bellator's season-six middleweight-tournament finale, but he'll do so with fewer bucks in his pocket.

Ohio Athletic Commission Executive Director Bernie Profato today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Spang has been fined 20 percent of his $30,000 fight purse ($6,000) for instigating a post-fight scuffle at Bellator 66 with Maiquel Falcão.

Spang also shoved opponent Brian Rogers at Bellator 66's weigh-ins.

Bellator 66 took place at Cleveland's I-X Center, and the night's main card aired on MTV2. Spang (8-1 MMA, 1-0 BFC), a late replacement for injured Bruno Santos, survived a two-round beating before scoring a shocking comeback-knockout of Rogers in the night's co-headliner and a tournament-semifinal fight.

However, after the fight, Bellator officials brought in his Bellator 70 opponent for the tournament finale: Maiquel Falcao, who defeated Vyacheslav Vasilevsky via unanimous decision earlier in the night. But like he did to Rogers, Spang immediately shoved Falcao (30-4 MMA, 2-0 BFC) once the fighters went forehead to forehead.

That prompted a brief scuffle, though Bellator commentator Jimmy Smith and matchmaker Sam Caplan helped quickly separate them.

UFC 146: Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva steps in to fill void against Cain Velasquez

With Frank Mir being pushed ahead to face heavyweight champ, Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC 146, his original opponent, Cain Velasquez (9-1), now draws Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva (16-3) as a replacement.

Rumors surfaced late last week that Roy Nelson was to be put in place for Frank Mir, but Nelson diffused that rumor via his twitter account stating, "I hope Cain, but still fight Silva."

After being tight-lipped at the UFC 145 post-fight press conference about the match-ups, UFC president, Dana White, opened up through twitter about the news.

"Don't believe any of the BS you read on the Internet," White said.  "Cain is fighting Bigfoot Silva May 26th in Vegas."

Originally slated to make his UFC debut against Nelson, Silva, a veteran of EliteXC and Strikeforce, will step in to the Octagon after losing his last bout to Daniel Cormier in September 2011.  Previously, the Brazilian was on a three fight win streak that pinnacled when he handed Fedor Emelianenko his second loss in nearly 11 years.

Valesquez is also walking into UFC 146 coming off the first loss of his career when he lost the heavyweight title to the current champ, Santos.  Looking to rebound from the set-back, Valesquez now has a sizable challenge ahead of him with Silva looking to firmly plant his feet in the UFC heavyweight division.

Nelson is expected to remain on the card, but UFC execs have yet to reveal his new opponent.

UFC 146 takes place May 26 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC 145 bonuses: Rothwell, Browne, Yagin and Hominick earn $65K awards

Ben Rothwell, Travis Browne, Eddie Yagin and Mark Hominick each earned $65,000 bonuses for their performances at Saturday's UFC 145 event.

Rothwell earned Knockout of the Night for his starching of Brendan Schaub. After eating a few big shots from Schaub early, Rothwell dropped the TUF vet with a left hook, then followed up with ground strikes that forced a stoppage from referee Herb Dean in the first round.

Fight of the Night went to main card fighters Eddie Yagin and Mark Hominick. The featherweights engaged in an exciting standup war that left both men battered and bloody. When the dust settled, Yagin earned the victory via split decision.

Browne was awarded Submission of the Night for his first-round arm triangle victory over STRIKEFORCE® import Chad Griggs. "Hapa" blitzed Griggs early with knees before taking the fight to the ground, and forced the tapout at the 2:29 mark.

Saturday's "UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans" event drew a reported 15,545 attendees to Atlanta's Philips Arena and generated a live gate of $2.2 million.

Featuring a light heavyweight title contest between current champion Jon Jones and former titleholder Rashad Evans, UFC 145 marked the company's first trip to Georgia since UFC 88 in September 2008.

The number of complimentary tickets issued for the sold-out show was not revealed, but the reported figures indicate the UFC generated an average revenue of $141.52 per ticket issued.

The attendance mark is a slight increase from the reported 14,736 fans that attended Philips Arena for UFC 88, where Evans knocked out Chuck Liddell. However, the revenue was down from the $2.6 million generated in 2008.

Following UFC 145 victory, Jon Jones receives Dan Henderson as next challenge

As expected Dan Henderson (29-8) is getting the next shot at UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones' title.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the plans after Saturday's UFC 145 event, where Jones (16-1) scored a decision victory over Rashad Evans (17-2-1) for his third consecutive title defense.

"We told Dan Henderson he would fight the winner of this fight, yes," White said.

Jones is excited for the matchup, even though he expects more haters to rally against him.

"I feel great that I already have a mission, and I'm going to work to better myself," Jones said. "Dan Henderson is a great opponent. He's a winner, and he has a huge fan base. ... He has extreme knockout power, and I'm excited to conquer."

Henderson is on a 7-1 run that includes fights at middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. The heavyweight win came over Fedor Emelianenko under the Strikeforce banner. Henderson scored a knockout win against the Russian then signed with the UFC and topped light heavyweight Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in a "Fight of the Year" performance at UFC 139.

Alistair Overeem out, Frank Mir in against Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146

Alistair Overeem (36-11) will get his day in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission next week, but UFC officials aren't waiting around.

UFC president Dana White announced late Friday night that Overeem has been pulled from the main event of UFC 146, and Frank Mir (16-5) will now face Junior Dos Santos (14-1) for the UFC heavyweight title.

Mir was originally expected to face Cain Velasquez (9-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC). White did not immediately reveal if Velasquez will receive a new opponent.

Dos Santos, was originally slated to face former Strikeforce champion Overeem in the main event of UFC 146, which takes place May 26 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. However, a recent pre-fight drug test that flagged Overeem for elevated levels of testosterone left his licensing status in doubt.

Overeem is scheduled to appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday in an effort to gain licensure. His camp has yet to reveal exactly what their defense will be in front of the commission, but UFC officials have apparently decided to move forward now.

Mir enters the fight on the strength of a three-fight win streak. The former heavyweight champion is 8-2 in his past 10 fights and has downed Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Roy Nelson and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Pedro Rizzo announced for June 21 in Russia

The longtime PRIDE champion, Fedor Emelianenko (33-4), will meet former UFC heavyweight-title challenger Pedro Rizzo (19-9) on June 21.

Fighters such as Bobby Lashley and Rolles Gracie previously were rumored for the slot, but M-1 official, Evgeni Kogan, announced via Twitter that the 37-year-old Rizzo is next in line.

Emelianenko recently left Strikeforce following consecutive losses to Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson. The Russian, who once won 27 consecutive fights (with one no-contest), has competed overseas, where he picked up victories over Jeff Monson and Satoshi Ishii in late 2011. The 35-year-old now fights for the first time in 2012.

Rizzo, a Brazilian who made his MMA debut nearly 16 years ago, fought for the UFC heavyweight title three times but came up short in each effort. A fan favorite, Rizzo now returns to the cage after a two-year layoff. Most recently, he picked up a pair of TKO victories over Gary Goodridge and Ken Shamrock in 2010.

The June 21 event, which is expected to be an M-1 show, takes place at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia.
