The third bout of the Season 4 welterweight tournament saw Jay Hieron battle Anthony Lapsley.

As the fight began, Hieron immediately attempted a guillotine, but Lapsley escaped.  Returning to the feet, Hieron scored with a big takedown and delivered punches from the half guard against the cage.  Midway through the round, Hieron took Lapsley back and then moved to mount as Lapsley rolled over onto his back.  Hieron transitioned for a rear-naked choke, and referring Josh Rosenthal stepped in to halt the bout.

Lapsley was visible upset, as he was still conscious, but the technical submission ended the bout at 3:39 of the first round.  Josh Rosenthal stated that he checked the wrist of Lapsley and received no response, hence the stoppage.

Hieron moves on in the tournament.  The multi-promotion veteran emphatically declared, “I’m back.” as he spoke with Jimmy Smith post fight.
