On Dec. 16, WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will face Scott Jorgensen to determine the first-ever UFC bantamweight champion.  However, regardless of the bout’s outcome, Cruz will step out of the cage and into an operating room.

Cruz fought with an injured hand against Joseph Benavidez and will do so again against Jorgensen.  The hand does need to be surgically repaired, but the injury does not affect Cruz’s punching power or striking ability.

Doctors told Cruz that the surgery would put him on the shelf for at least six months, but Cruz believes he’s a “quick recovery type of guy” and estimated that the recovery time would be closer to four months.
