Travis Browne set to meet Fabricio Werdum on April 19

The UFC® is bringing heavyweight action to Orlando! Second-ranked Fabricio Werdum returns to the Octagon® to battle third-ranked Travis Browne in a bout that will likely determine the next challenger to champion Cain Velasquez’s crown.

Currently on a three-fight win streak that includes victories over fellow Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace and former heavyweight champion Minotauro Nogueira, Fedor Emelianenko, and Roy Nelson, Fabricio Werdum (17-5-1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Calif.) looks to cap off his streak with a decisive win over a surging Browne. After soundly defeating Gabriel Gonzaga, Alistair Overeem, and Josh Barnett, all via first-round knockout, Travis Browne (16-1-1, fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M.) brings his 6-foot-7 frame and unorthodox style into a high stakes bout where a win could mean a shot at the UFC title.

In addition, former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion and second-ranked Miesha Tate (13-5, fighting out of Yakima, Wash.) faces the heavy-handed U.S Marine and seventh-ranked Liz Carmouche (8-4, fighting out of San Diego, Calif.) in a critical bout in the division.

Also on the main card, fan-favorite No. 8 Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (22-6, fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M.) battles explosive lightweight No.11Edson Barboza (13-1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in an early favorite for “Fight of the Night” honors, while No. 13 ranked Brad Tavares (12-2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.), winner of five straight, takes on 2000 Olympic freestyle wrestling silver medalist and 14th-ranked Yoel Romero (7-1, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla. by way of Pinar del Rio, Cuba) in a middleweight bout.

The card also features two additional exciting lightweight bouts when the streaking No. 6 Rafael dos Anjos (20-6, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) meets the undefeated seventh-ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov (21-0, fighting out of Dagestan, Russia) and South Florida’s Jorge Masvidal (25-8, fighting out of Miami, Fla.) squares off against the always dangerous veteran Pat Healy (31-17, 1NC, fighting out of Portland, Ore.). Two welterweight bouts join the card, as former title challenger Thiago “Pitbull” Alves (24-8, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla.) returns to action following a lengthy layoff to take on Seth Baczynski (fighting out of Apache Junction, Ariz.), while Argentinian striker Santiago Ponzinibbio (19-2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) faces knockout artist Jordan Mein (27-9, fighting out of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada). Additionally, Orlando’s Josh Samman (10-3, fighting out of Tallahassee, Fla.) takes on Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Caio Magalhaes (7-2, fighting out of Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil) at middleweight.

Palhares Meets Belcher In Final UFC on Fox 3 Fight

The UFC on Fox 3 main card has now been filled.

The final bout announced for the four fight televised card on May 5 will feature a middleweight showdown between Alan Belcher (17-6) and submission specialist Rousimar Palhares (14-3).

After nearly losing his fighting career to an eye injury, Belcher came back in a big way in 2011 with a TKO win over veteran fighter Jason MacDonald last September at UFC Fight Night 25.  The win moved Belcher to 3-0 over his last three fights and closer to thoughts of title contention.

Leg-lock specialist Palhares keeps proving everybody wrong that moves like heel hooks just don’t get pulled off that often in MMA.  Palhares has finished four of his seven opponents in the UFC with the leg buckling submission, and maybe he’ll be looking for number five in May.

UFC on FOX 3 takes place May 5 at IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J.

Mackens Semerzier vs. Robert Peralta Result Changed to a No Contest
The result of the Nov. 12 Mackens Semerzier vs. Robert Peralta fight has been changed to a no contest following a Tuesday hearing in California, Semerzier's manager Brian Butler-Au of SuckerPunch Entertainment confirmed with MMAFighting.com.
Semerzier appealed the result to the California State Athletic Commission, stating that the illegal headbutt led to the finish. Referee "Big" John McCarthy, who worked the UFC on Fox fight, which took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., also sent in a letter of recommendation to the CSAC supporting Semerzier's appeal. After reviewing the fight and the supporting paperwork filed by Semerzier's camp, the commission decided to overturn the result.
Butler-Au attended the CSAC hearing Tuesday morning in Van Nuys, Calif. Semerzier could not attend due to an illness. The commission requested Peralta to attend the meeting, but according to Butler-Au, Peralta never responded to the request.
Semerzier is hoping the UFC now books a rematch between the two featherweights to finish what they started on Nov. 12.

UFC on Fox 1 adds three bouts

Mackens Semerzier vs.Robert Peralta, Paul "The Gentleman" Bradley vs. Mike Pierce, and Matt Lucas vs. Aaron Rosa have all been added to the inaugural UFC on Fox card.

Semerzier (6-3) was unsuccessful in three consecutive WEC bouts, but picked up a victory in his UFC debut against Alex Caceres.  He was scheduled to face Mike Lullo at UFN 25, but was forced out of the scrap due to injury.

Peralta (15-3), ironically, was successful in his UFC debut against Lullo.  He is currently on a seven-fight win streak.

Bradley (18-3) has endured a single UFC bout in his career and he came up short against Rafael Natal at UFC 133.  Prior to that the middleweight was unbeaten in six fights, four of which ended by submission.

Pierce (12-4) is a strong wrestler that trains at Team Quest.  He most recently lost a decision to Johny Hendricks, but leading up to that setback Pierce's only loss in the Octagon was to former welterweight No. 1 contender Jon Fitch.

Lucas (14-2) makes his UFC debut at UFC on Fox 1 after winning five consecutive fights in Rage in the Cage.  The newcomer trains at Arizona Combat Sports and is known for heavy hands.

Rosa (16-4) fought Joey Beltran in a losing effort at UFC 131.  This will mark his second bout in the promotion, but a debut in the 205 pound division.  Respected as a well-rounded fighter, Rosa has a mix of six knockouts and four submissions on his record.  Most notably defeating Devin Cole and Abe Wagner prior to his UFC debut.

UFC on Fox 1 is slated for Nov. 12, in Anaheim, Calif. with a heavyweight title match between champion Cain Velasquez and challenger Junior Dos Santos holding down the main event..
