Wilson Reis will make his UFC debut on short notice, replacing Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto to face Ivan Menjivar at UFC 165, sources close to the bout confirmed with MMADiehards.com.
UFC 165 takes place on September 21 at the Air Canada Center in Toronto.
Reis (0-0 UFC, 16-4 MMA) is a Bellator FC veteran who comes to the UFC riding a four-fight winning streak that includes three submission victories. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt won the 2004 Jiu Jitsu World Championships, and appeared as an assistant Jiu-Jitsu coach for Dominick Cruz on “The Ultimate Fighter: Live.”
Menjivar (4-2 UFC, 25-10 MMA) has alternated wins and losses in his last four fights, and will be looking to bounce back from a first-round submission defeat at the hands of Urijah Faber at UFC 157 last February.
MMADiehards.com was unable to confirm why Yamamoto was removed from the bout, but we will update as information becomes available.
