Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (5-0) will put her title on the line against Sarah Kaufman (15-1) on Aug. 18 at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced the news today on the Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy” conference call.
The bout will mark Rousey’s first title defense since defeating Miesha Tate last March to become the champion. The former Judo Olympian is undefeated in her MMA career and has become known for fight-ending armbars in the first round.
Kaufman is currently on a three-fight win streak, most recently defeating Alexis Davis at Strikeforce: “Rousey vs. Tate” in March of this year. Kaufman was the first ever Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, but lost the belt to Marloes Coenen via armbar. The defeat is the only loss Kaufman has ever suffered in MMA.
